Wings Air’s direct Pekanbaru to Melaka service is now operating, with the route officially back from 10 June 2026 and flights running three times a week.
TourismMelaka reported on 31 May that the route was set to return. This new update confirms that the comeback has moved from plan to reality. For travellers, that matters. It means the shortcut into Melaka is no longer something to watch, it is something you can book.
The service runs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport in Pekanbaru and Melaka International Airport in Batu Berendam. That simple schedule makes the route useful for quick breaks, family visits, medical trips, and short heritage weekends without the usual detour through Kuala Lumpur.
A direct flight changes the shape of the trip. You land much closer to the old quarter, the riverfront, and the city’s better-known hotels, so more of your time stays in Melaka instead of on the road. That is especially useful here because the city works best as a compact two or three-night stay, with museums, food streets, and evening walks all sitting within easy reach.
Indonesian travellers already know why the city draws repeat visits. Melaka offers a compact historic core, dependable private hospitals, strong museum culture, and a dining scene that still feels rooted in local life. Easier access gives all of that a sharper edge, especially for travellers from Riau who want a simpler regional hop.
This return also says something bigger about the airport. Melaka is becoming easier to enter directly, not just as a side trip from another gateway. For visitors who value short transfer times and a softer landing into the city, that is a real upgrade.
If you are flying in on this route, stay near Banda Hilir or the heritage core and use the first evening well. Walk the river, eat close to Jonker Street, and leave the longer museum circuit for the next morning. A direct flight makes Melaka feel the way it should, close, practical, and very easy to enjoy.
