Melaka gets a smart family day out this Saturday. A large robotics and AI expo takes over Malim Food Town on 13 June, from 10am to 8pm, with free entry.
This is the kind of event that works well for travellers with kids, or anyone who wants a break from heritage sights without leaving the city. Expect live robot demonstrations, interactive AI game zones and plenty of movement on the floor. Organisers say visitors will see robot dogs, humanoid robots and larger robots that dance, jump and perform action routines.
The biggest draw looks set to be the hands-on element. You can watch drone football matches in 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 formats, then try controlling drones yourself. There will also be a smart chess robot and a futuristic tech showcase aimed at families.
Malim Food Town sits outside the usual old-town sightseeing loop, so this makes sense as a half-day detour rather than a full-day plan. Pair it with a morning around Jonker Walk or the Stadthuys, then head north for the expo once the heat builds.
For visitors, the appeal is simple. You get a free, easy-access event with clear hours and enough interactive features to keep children engaged. It also offers a fresh view of Melaka, one that goes beyond museums and river cruises.
If you are in town on Saturday, this is one of the more unusual pop-up events on the calendar. Arrive earlier in the day for a calmer visit, or go in late afternoon when families tend to turn it into an evening outing.
