New Traffic Update for Tourists Visiting Melaka – Adjustments on Saturday Evenings from 16 December 2023

This initiative, aimed at enhancing the pedestrian experience, covers the roads around key landmarks like St Francis Xavier Church, Christ Church, Stadthuys, and the bustling Jonker Street, specifically affecting Jalan Istana, Jalan Mahkamah, Jalan Gereja, Lorong Gereja, Jalan Laksamana, and parts of Jalan Tun Khalil Yaakob and Jalan Merdeka. During these hours, these roads are blissfully free from vehicular traffic, offering a serene and safe walking experience.

Car-free Zone Update from 22 December 2023

The car-free zone timings in Melaka have been extended from 22 December 2023. Initially set every Saturday from 6:00 PM to midnight, the zone will now begin every Friday at 6:00 PM and end at midnight on Sunday. This extension applies to the same roads around key landmarks, offering an extended serene and safe walking experience throughout the weekend.

In a recent development, the Melaka City Council has announced an adjustment to the traffic flow, effective from 16 December 2023. This change impacts the area from the intersection of Jalan Laksamana and Jalan Banda Kaba, near landmarks such as the Public Bank Banda Hilir building and the Madonna building. The adjustment extends through Jalan Banda Kaba, Lorong Chan Koon Cheng, and Jalan Chan Koon Cheng, leading up to the Hotel Equatorial at the intersection with Jalan Parameswara (near Mahkota Parade).
