We wrote last week that Melaka River Festival 2026 was chasing a second Malaysia Book of Records entry alongside its konda kondi replica. It has now landed.
10,670 pieces, and counting
Organisers set out to make 10,000 pieces of kuih keria, a traditional Melaka snack of deep-fried sweet potato rings soaked in syrup, as part of the festival’s cultural programme. They ended up with 10,670, enough to secure a Malaysia Book of Records certificate for the effort.
The batch was shared with the public at Dataran Pengkalan Rama in Melaka Tengah, the same venue where the festival’s konda kondi replica record was announced on 19 July.
Part of a growing tally
Kuih keria is now the fifth tourism-related Malaysia Book of Records entry the Melaka state government has picked up in the past three years, following the konda kondi replica and, before that, a 50,000-piece onde-onde record set at last year’s River Festival.
Why it matters for visitors
None of this changes your itinerary, but it is a reminder that Melaka’s food culture is a running theme of this year’s festival, not a one-off. If you want to try kuih keria yourself, it turns up regularly at kopitiams and market stalls across the old town, and makes an easy addition to a Melaka food crawl.
The Melaka River Festival itself still has months of river and beach programming to come, running through September across Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin.
