What to do in June
June works best when you treat Melaka as a weekend city, not a rushed side trip. The Pekanbaru flights restarting on June 10 make that even clearer. June also brings family crowds, so a central base matters. Stay in Banda Hilir or by the river, and use the city at night.
Start your evening at the new colour-lit walk beside Red Square. It looks better after dark than another quick daytime photo stop. From there, keep moving toward the river instead of diving straight into Jonker Street. This stretch now feels brighter, easier, and more fun for families.
Take a trishaw only when the rider wants to roll, not when it sits parked for photos. Last month’s Bhangra weekend showed why. The best rides respond to whoever fills the streets. Phase 2 upgrades point the right way, and the river already rewards more time. Book the river cruise early, then use the riverside paths before or after it.
For one meal away from the postcard zone, go south to Semabok for asam pedas. You get a sharper bowl, bigger tables, and fewer people performing heritage for Instagram. If you want culture in daylight, pick one house museum or gallery, then stop. June rewards range, not a checklist.
