The Melaka River
cruise & water taxi guide.

Three ways to explore the Melaka River - a 45-minute heritage cruise through 600 years of history, a hop-on hop-off service at 14 piers, or a water taxi to skip the traffic jams.

Temporary boarding change

From 2 November 2026, all Melaka River Cruise passengers board and disembark at Jeti Pengkalan Rama while Jeti Taman Rempah is upgraded. The work is scheduled to finish on 1 March 2027. Walk through nearby Kampung Morten in the late afternoon, then take a sunset cruise.

Three services, one river

All three services are operated by the official Melaka River Cruise. Choose based on how much time you have and what you want to do.

River Cruise is a 45-minute sightseeing loop - the only river journey in South East Asia that takes you through 600 years of Melaka’s history. You board, cruise about 9km through the heart of the UNESCO heritage site, and return to the same jetty. No stops in between. Read our full River Cruise guide for the history, murals, and the best time to go.

Hop-on Hop-off Cruise gives you unlimited access to 14 piers along the river for one or three days. Use it like a bus - hop off at Kampung Morten, walk around, hop back on, continue to The Shore for lunch. One of the 14 stops is at a riverfront cafe or restaurant where you can sit and take in the river views.

Water Taxi is pure transport - point-to-point travel along Sungai Melaka to beat traffic jams. Fares vary by distance, from RM1.50 to RM15.70 for adults.

Where to board

From 2 November 2026, board and disembark at Jeti Pengkalan Rama for the 45-minute Melaka River Cruise. The Taman Rempah upgrade is scheduled to finish on 1 March 2027, after which boarding returns to the original jetty.

Jeti Pengkalan Rama is the temporary start and return point for the River Cruise. Walk through nearby Kampung Morten in the late afternoon, then come back for a sunset ride past traditional riverside houses, murals and old warehouses.

Taman Rempah Jetty (Spice Garden Jetty) is the usual River Cruise hub on Jalan Tun Mutahir, with a large, free car park. Use Pengkalan Rama for River Cruise boarding while the upgrade is under way.

For the separate Hop-on Hop-off, buy a pass at the Melaka River Cruise counter on Level 1 of The Shore Mall, then use the 14-jetty route to visit riverside sights such as Kampung Morten, The Shore and Stadthuys.

How to book

Tickets can be bought at the operating jetty or booked online in advance through Expedia. During the temporary move, use Jeti Pengkalan Rama for Melaka River Cruise boarding.

  1. Pick your service

  2. Choose your time

The Melaka River Cruise runs daily from 9am to 11pm. Choose sunset for warm light over the old warehouses or an after-dark ride for the illuminated riverbanks.
