Morten Walk is changing. UDA Holdings has agreed to invest RM1 million in a major upgrade to the riverside promenade in Kampung Morten, turning one of Melaka’s quieter waterfront spots into a more modern and visitor-friendly destination.
What the upgrade covers
The plan centres on three priorities: Retail, Recreation, and Relax. UDA Holdings will upgrade facilities at Morten Walk to include new sporting, recreational, and business amenities. The goal is to make the area more comfortable for locals and visitors alike, while giving the traders based there a stronger foothold.
The investment is designed to bring more visitors back to a promenade that has struggled with footfall in recent years.
Why Morten Walk matters to visitors
Morten Walk runs along the Melaka River in Kampung Morten, a living heritage village that sits just across the water from the town centre. The area is known for its cluster of traditional wooden Malay houses and calm river views.
For travellers, it offers a quieter alternative to the busier strips around Jonker Street and Bandar Hilir. The HPM carnival earlier this week gave many visitors a first proper look at the promenade. The RM1 million upgrade should give them a stronger reason to return.
No completion date has been announced. Morten Walk stays open in the meantime, and the area is easy to reach on foot from the heritage core.
