If there is one date to keep free this week, it is Sunday 5 July.

The Melaka state government is hosting Festival Durian Melaka ‘Kendurian’ 2026 at Duta Riang Villa in Selandar, Asahan. The concept is simple: sit down, eat as much Musang King and Black Thorn durian as you can manage, then leave satisfied.

What the buffet includes

The festival runs from 11am to 4pm, with entry organised into 20-minute timed slots. During your slot, eating is unlimited. Organisers have prepared at least 12 metric tons of durian for the day, so you are unlikely to find the trays empty.

Two premium varieties are on offer: Musang King, the creamy gold-flesh variety that commands high prices at roadside stalls, and Black Thorn, its bitter-sweet rival that is even harder to find at a fair price.

Pricing

  • RM50 per person for visitors from outside Melaka
  • RM25 per person for Melaka state residents (bring your national identity card to qualify)
  • Free entry for children aged 12 and under

For a fruit that regularly sells at RM30 to RM60 per kilogram at peak season, an unlimited 20-minute session at RM50 is a straightforward deal.

Why this exists

The festival is a direct response to a bumper harvest. Melaka’s durian growers are experiencing a surplus right now, and prices at the farm gate have dropped. The state government stepped in to organise a public sale event that moves the fruit fast while keeping it affordable for ordinary visitors and residents alike.

Getting there

Duta Riang Villa is in Selandar, within the Asahan district in the south of Melaka. This is rural Melaka, about 30 to 40 minutes from the city centre by car. Grab is available but coverage can be patchy in this area, so driving is the most reliable option.

If you are planning a fuller visit to the state, pair the morning durian session with a drive along the southern coast toward Merlimau or wrap up the afternoon with a seafood dinner back in the city. Food lovers will also want to keep the Melaka Food Crawl itinerary bookmarked for the rest of their trip.

The festival is a one-day event with no announced repeat date, so Sunday 5 July is the window.
