Melaka River Festival's Beach Finale Gets Its Dates: Tanjung Bidara, 18 to 20 September

Festival Sungai Melaka's closing beach party finally has confirmed dates, with jetski displays and low-cost water activities at Tanjung Bidara from 18 to 20 September, plus two more Alor Gajah stops earlier in the month.

The Melaka River Festival has been running since June without a firm date for its coastal send-off. That gap is now filled: the closing Pesta Pantai Tanjung Bidara is set for 18 to 20 September.

Two Alor Gajah stops before the beach party

Before the festival reaches the coast, it makes two more stops inland. A D’Bendang fishing competition runs at Taboh Naning on 5 September, followed by a freshwater prawn fishing contest and a decorated boat competition at Ayer Limau on 6 and 12 September. Both are part of the Alor Gajah leg of Festival Sungai Melaka 2026, which the Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) has expanded into a three-district programme this year, alongside Melaka Tengah and Jasin.

The festival wraps up at Tanjung Bidara, a beach roughly ten minutes from Masjid Tanah town on Melaka’s west coast. Organisers have lined up jetski displays and other beach activities, with water sports offered to visitors at low rates over the three days. PPSPM has said the beach festival is set to become an annual closer for the wider river festival.

If you are already building a trip around Melaka’s heritage core, this is a reason to add a coastal day. Pair a morning on the Melaka River Cruise with an afternoon drive out to Tanjung Bidara for the closing weekend, and you get both sides of the state’s river-to-sea identity in one trip.
