Melaka’s Tanjung Bidara beach finale now has a full programme to match its dates.
The three-day event, from 18 to 20 September, carries the official name Festival Seni Selat & Sungai Melaka (FSSSM) 2026, run by the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN). It builds on the beach party dates confirmed earlier this month for the Melaka River Festival’s coastal send-off.
A cultural night with a full lineup
The centrepiece is Malam Budaya Tanjung Bidara, a cultural night on 19 September featuring around 500 performers. The bill includes Indonesian singer Bunga Sirait and veteran Malaysian singer Jamal Abdillah.
Beyond the main stage, the festival runs joget, zapin and vocal contests through the weekend, alongside talent discovery programmes and academic discussions with cultural scholars and authors.
Water sports and a taste of heritage
The beach programme keeps the jetski displays and low-cost water activities already announced, adding banana boat rides to the mix. Visitors can also catch a nasi lemak kukus (steamed coconut rice) demonstration, tying into Malaysia’s breakfast culture, which UNESCO inscribed on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2024.
