When free entry to Melaka’s tourism spots on National Day was first confirmed, the full list of participating venues was still to come. The river routes are now locked in, along with the fleet needed to move the crowds.
What’s confirmed for 31 August
Melaka’s river and coastal tourism agency, PPSPM, has confirmed free entry to three of its products on National Day: the Melaka River Cruise, Eco Cruise Tasik Chinchin, and Eco Cruise Sungai Linggi at Paya Lebar. All three will run free from 9am to 5pm.
To handle an expected 10,000 visitors over the day, PPSPM has lined up 33 boats: 30 for the Melaka River Cruise on the Melaka River, one for Eco Cruise Tasik Chinchin, and two for Eco Cruise Sungai Linggi. The free entry is part of the state government’s Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) initiative, open to Malaysians.
Plan around the crowds
With three products and a fixed window, expect queues to build fastest in the middle of the day. If you’re also using the free National Day shuttle into Klebang or catching the warship viewing, the Melaka River Cruise jetty at Quayside is a short walk from the historic core, making it easy to combine with a morning in Jonker Walk before the afternoon crowds build at Klebang.
A running perk worth knowing
Outside the free day, the Melaka River Cruise runs its own lucky draw through the year: spend RM70 or more on a regular visit and you’re entered into quarterly draws, with a Proton Bezza car as the year-end grand prize running through 25 December 2026. It’s a small incentive to come back for a paid sailing once the free entry day has passed.
