Klebang’s National Day weekend has wrapped, and the numbers make it one of the biggest single gatherings Melaka has hosted.
A record three-day turnout
The Melaka state government has confirmed that more than 150,000 people visited the state-level National Day programme at Klebang across its full 29 to 31 August run. Over 70,000 of them turned out on the final day alone, 31 August, for the main ceremony at Persiaran Jalan Pantai.
Officials described it as the largest turnout the celebration has drawn in Melaka’s history, with visitors arriving from across the country rather than just from the state itself. A parade of 158 contingents took part, backed by a mass formation display on the ground.
Fighter jets over the coast
The closing day’s headline draw was an aerial flypast by the Royal Malaysian Air Force. Sukhoi Su-30MKM, FA-18D Hornet and Hawk 200 fighter jets flew low over the crowd, including tight climbing manoeuvres that drew loud applause, alongside A400M and C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and helicopters.
It capped a programme that had already grown steadily through August, from the warship boarding announced in early August to a third warship and 19-activity military carnival, then a fifth warship with confirmed boat tour times and free river cruise entry for the same weekend.
