The Melaka Compass: November 2026

November brings a Deepavali long weekend from 7 to 9 November, a river cruise boarding change from 2 November, and Singapore's school holidays from 21 November. Pick your dates around the rain and the crowds.

What to do in November

The month opens with the last days of the ASEAN cultural exchange in Banda Hilir, which runs to 2 November. Exhibitions and performances are spread across venues including the Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum grounds, so a Sunday or Monday visit is still worth it. Check programme times locally.

Then comes the month’s one long weekend, and it is a short one. Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November, and Monday 9 November is a replacement holiday. That gives Melaka a three-day weekend from Saturday 7 November. If you want the old town at its busiest and liveliest, this is the weekend. If you want elbow room, pick another.

Book early for the 7 to 9 November window. Arrivals build on Friday afternoon and again on Monday evening on the way out. The driving guide covers the parking squeeze, and the heritage core is car-free on weekend evenings. Coach travellers should reserve ahead on the express bus from KL and Singapore. Electric car drivers now have the new fast charger on Lebuh SPA, about 8km from the Ayer Keroh Toll Plaza.

Saturday 7 November is also the first Saturday of the month, which is when Melaka Bila Larut Malam runs. Taking part are attractions that normally close early, including Zoo Melaka with its night safari, Taming Sari Tower and the river cruise, with tickets from as little as RM10. Check the latest announcement for the November venues and prices, then plan one or two stops rather than all of them.

The river cruise has a change to know about. From 2 November, boarding and disembarking move to Jeti Pengkalan Rama while work goes on at Jeti Taman Rempah. The service keeps running, and the work is scheduled to finish on 1 March 2027. The ride is still 45 minutes, so read the river guide for fares and the hop-on hop-off and water taxi options before you go.

Now the weather. November sits in the middle of the Northeast Monsoon, and it is typically among Melaka’s wettest months. Expect afternoon and evening downpours more than all-day rain. Do the fort and outdoor walking in the morning. Save museums, cafes and malls for when the sky turns.

The quieter stretch comes between the two holiday peaks, roughly Tuesday 10 November to the middle of the month. Weekday crowds in the old town thin out. It is a good window for a trip beyond the heritage core. The Eco-Cruise Paya Lebar in the north of the state runs for about two hours at RM50 a person, but river trips depend on tide and weather, so confirm with the operator before you drive out. For a guaranteed crocodile sighting in any weather, the Melaka Crocodile and Recreation Park is the indoor-friendly fallback.

The second crowd moment is late in the month. Singapore’s school holidays begin on 21 November and run to the end of December, so expect more Singapore families from that weekend on. Malaysian schools in Melaka follow on 5 December, which means the late-November weekends fill up before the local holiday rush.

That makes 21 and 22 November a smart family weekend if you book now. Pair Zoo Melaka with an indoor stop, and use the Family Weekend itinerary as a starting plan. If the panther cub has a name by then, the zoo will be the place to meet him.
